Q - What is physiotherapy?

A- Physiotherapy is an evidence-based healthcare profession focused on assessing, diagnosing and treating pain, injury and movement disorders. Treatment is guided by clinical reasoning, current research and individual goals, rather than one-size-fits-all techniques. Our physiotherapists are HCPC registered and Chartered, ensuring care meets the highest professional standards.

Q - Is physiotherapy evidence-based?

A - Yes. Modern physiotherapy is grounded in scientific research and clinical guidelines. Treatment plans are built using the best available evidence, combined with clinical expertise and your individual presentation. We prioritise approaches shown to improve pain, function and long-term outcomes, rather than unproven or short-term fixes.

Q - What makes your clinic different?

A - Our care is led and delivered by an experienced team of Chartered Physiotherapists, including Olivia and Lauren, whose backgrounds span NHS, private practice and community-based care. This breadth of experience allows us to provide a complete, end-to-end physiotherapy pathway rather than isolated treatment sessions.

Our clinicians have extensive NHS experience managing complex musculoskeletal conditions, post-operative rehabilitation and long-term conditions. This grounding ensures our private care remains clinically robust, evidence-based and aligned with best-practice standards. We also maintain strong professional relationships across the healthcare system, including GPs, orthopaedic consultants, radiology services and minor injury units.

This means we are highly experienced in recognising when physiotherapy is appropriate, when imaging such as MRI or ultrasound may be required, and when onward referral is in your best interest. Where necessary, we can guide patients efficiently towards GP review, minor injuries services or orthopaedic consultation, ensuring care is joined-up rather than fragmented.

Q - What happens at my first appointment?

A - Your initial appointment includes a comprehensive assessment of your symptoms, movement, strength and function. We take time to understand your goals, lifestyle and concerns. Following assessment, we explain our findings clearly and discuss the most appropriate treatment options. You will leave with a clear plan and understanding of your recovery pathway.

Q - Will I receive hands-on treatment?

A - Hands-on treatment may be included where appropriate, but it is never used in isolation. Manual therapy is combined with education and active rehabilitation to support meaningful and lasting improvement. The focus is always on what will help you recover most effectively.

Q - What about treatments that "crack things back into place"?

A - You may hear claims that joints are "out of place" and need to be cracked or realigned. Current evidence does not support this idea for most musculoskeletal problems. While some manual techniques may provide short-term symptom relief, long-term improvement comes from understanding the cause of symptoms, restoring movement, improving strength and supporting tissue healing. Our approach focuses on sustainable recovery, not temporary fixes.

Q - How is physiotherapy different from massage therapy?

A - Massage can be helpful for short-term symptom relief, but physiotherapy goes significantly further. Physiotherapists are trained to assess the underlying cause of pain or dysfunction, not just the symptoms. Physiotherapy-led massage is used selectively within a broader treatment plan that may include rehabilitation exercises, load management, education and progression back to activity. This clinical approach helps reduce recurrence and supports long-term recovery.

Q - Do you offer sports massage and deep tissue massage?

A - Yes, but always within a physiotherapy-led framework. Sports and deep tissue massage can be valuable tools for managing muscle tension, recovery and training load. Delivered by experienced physiotherapists, these techniques are integrated with assessment and rehabilitation to ensure they support performance, recovery and injury prevention.

Q - What conditions do physiotherapists treat?

A - Physiotherapy can help with a wide range of conditions including:

  • Back and neck pain

  • Joint pain and arthritis

  • Sports injuries

  • Tendon and ligament injuries

  • Post-operative rehabilitation

  • Work-related and occupational injuries

  • Persistent or recurrent pain conditions

Q - How many sessions will I need?

A - This varies depending on your condition, goals and response to treatment. Some patients improve quickly, while others require a more structured rehabilitation programme. We regularly review progress and adapt treatment to ensure it remains effective and evidence-based.

Q - Do you offer injection therapy?

A - Yes. Where clinically appropriate, injection therapy such as corticosteroid or hyaluronic acid injections may be offered as part of a broader treatment plan. Injections are never used in isolation and are combined with physiotherapy to optimise outcomes and long-term recovery.

Q - Do I need a GP referral?

A - No referral is required. You can book directly with our physiotherapists. If necessary, we can liaise with your GP, consultant or other healthcare professionals to support your care.

Q - What should I wear to my appointment?

A - Comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being assessed is recommended. For lower limb issues, shorts are helpful; for upper limb or spinal concerns, loose-fitting tops are ideal.

Q - Is physiotherapy suitable if I have long-term or persistent pain?

A - Yes. Physiotherapy is particularly valuable for managing long-term or recurrent pain. Treatment focuses on improving function, confidence and understanding of pain, alongside physical rehabilitation. Our approach is supportive, evidence-based and tailored to you.

Q - Do you provide Home Visits?

A - We provide both clinic-based and home visit physiotherapy across Lanarkshire, with significant experience delivering community physiotherapy for patients who may be post-operative, managing long-term conditions, or unable to attend clinic. This community experience strengthens our ability to adapt treatment to real-life environments and functional goals.

If our beautiful clinic is not in a private enough setting or difficult for you to get to, our team are happy to offer Home Visits by pre arrangement.  One of our care team will bring all the necessary kit and tools required to deliver our 5* service, leaving you only the task of picking time and place.

Q - What's the difference between physiotherapy and other treatments?

A - Unlike osteopathy, chiropractic or sports therapy, physiotherapy is a regulated healthcare profession grounded in medical training, clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice. Our physiotherapists assess the whole system, not just isolated structures and treatment is focused on diagnosis, rehabilitation, education and long-term outcomes. Techniques are chosen based on evidence and individual need, not predefined treatment styles.

We do not rely on narratives such as putting joints "back into place". Instead, we use current understanding of pain, movement and tissue healing to support sustainable recovery. Hands-on techniques, including massage, are used where appropriate but always within a wider rehabilitation and progression plan.

Q - How quickly can I get a physiotherapy appointment?

A - One of our strengths is timely access to care. We aim to offer appointments as quickly as possible, often within days. Early assessment is important for guiding appropriate management, identifying red flags and preventing unnecessary delays. Where required, we can also advise on accessing GP, minor injuries or specialist services promptly through our established healthcare connections.

Our goal is to provide clarity, confidence and continuity of care - from first assessment, through rehabilitation, to orthopaedic consultation if needed - ensuring patients feel supported at every stage of their recovery. Importantly, we can provide this considerably faster than current NHS waiting lists, often within the same week.

Q - Do you have good connections to other healthcare professionals?

A - Our entire team has a background in the NHS as minimum. Many of our team still operate within the NHS alongside private, this keeps us humble, knowledgeable, up to date and well connected within the Health and Social Care sector.  Should you need any peripheral services and onward referral, we’ll put you in touch with the best and explain things simply for you. Where required, we can also advise on accessing GP, minor injuries or specialist services promptly through our established healthcare connections.

Q - What if I miss my appointment?

A - We operate a strict 24 hour cancellation policy due to the limited nature of our diary and to be fair for all our patients.  If you contact us within 24 hours before your appointment then we will cancel your appointment and reschedule no questions asked. However, if you fail to attend and do not inform us then you may still be charged for the cancelled appointment at 50% of the full price.

Q - I need a physiotherapist near me?

A - Our HQ is located through the gates of Bothwell Road Park in Hamilton. We have lovingly renovated the historic gatehouse and are proud to be located at the heart of the Lanarkshire community, serving clients from surrounding areas such as Carluke, Wishaw, Motherwell, Bothwell, Lanark, East Kilbride and Glasgow.
