Acupuncture

Our team work tirelessly to deliver the best evidence based treatment.  Acupuncture is an effective treatment for a multitude of issues - Our resident expert Olivia will happily talk you through the benefits of our treatment and whether acupuncture is right for you.

WHY ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is one of the many skills used within physiotherapy as an integrated approach to the management of pain and inflammation and as a means of stimulating the body’s own healing chemicals in order to enhance your route to recovery.

Acupuncture within physiotherapy is used against the background of clinical and research evidence and derives from the ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).  Acupuncture is founded on the holistic concept of treatment and an acknowledgement of the body’s ability to return to its balanced state of health, given the correct stimulus to do so.  The body has the ability to “self repair" and the use of Acupuncture enhances the repair mechanism and enables an improved recovery time as a result.

Our more conventional western Acupuncture techniques involve the use of single use, pre-sterilised, disposable needles of varying widths, lengths and materials that pierce the skin at the Acupuncture points.  Olivia will determine the locations of the Acupuncture points, based upon her assessment of the cause of your imbalance.  A number of needles may be used at each treatment and these are typically left in position for some 20-30 minutes before being removed.

Our Acupuncture practice is effective at assisting with back pain, whilst also used to treat and accelerate tendon injuries such as the Achilles for runners and tennis elbow for racketeers.  By stimulating specific points in the tendon by pecking the structure, we stimulate a positive inflammatory response which augments collagen formation and assists your pain.

All of the above allows our other physiotherapy treatments such as exercise, muscle strengthening and rehabilitation to achieve more effective results.  As part of your Acupuncture treatment, we will provide you with any complementary movements free of charge!  Interested in how Acupuncture can work for you?  Contact us today or check out our pricing for Acupuncture sessions.

Q - HOW LONG DOES AN ACUPUNCTURE SESSION LAST, HOW MANY SHOULD I REQUIRE AND WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

A - Fundamentally, Acupuncture should be used to compliment the general physiotherapy process you would go through at MT Physiotherapy.  We would always conduct an initial appointment if it is your first acupuncture session with us to ensure it is safe and appropriate for your problem area.  On average, we expect three Acupuncture sessions to provide a positive outcome and when used in conjunction with other physiotherapy treatments, can yield very positive results.  On your first visit and subsequent follow ups, expect the very best of treatment, care and attention as we walk you through the process step by step.
